There were two main topics discussed at the Exhibit Designers and
Producers Conference(EDPA) held the first week of December: The Economy
and Green Exhibiting.
Estimates of the economic downturn's impact on show
attendance range from a 6-20% drop. This will not be good for hotels,
restaurants or cab drivers. Exhibitors though, will be able to spend
more time with the key buyers who do attend. This effect was also
present after 9/11 when travel was curtailed for all but the top
decision makers.
Green exhibiting and exhibit practices are on the
rise, but direction and clarification are needed. Just what is "green"?
To this point, the EDPA has established a committee to evaluate and
provide guidelines and benchmarks. These should be available by mid
2009.
Happy Holidays

Design Feature: Color Trends for
Spring 2009
|
When considering new
designs and marketing campaigns for early 2009; it is often helpful to
take color trends into consideration. Here is Pantone's
color trends for Spring 2009.
Spring traditionally evokes a sense of freshness and new beginnings,
with sprouting shoots and blossoming flowers that inspire designers to
breakout of the winter doldrums. Bright colors return to the top 10
list for spring ’09, as designers incorporate vibrant pops into their
collections, yet temper the vibrancy with deeper, translucent or
neutral tones.
As
is often true, colors evolve from season to season, and spring ’09 is no
exception. Palace Blue, a
favorite among designers this
season, takes a steadfast, classic, spring navy-like tone and
makes it sparkle. Paired with just about any color in the
report, it offers many intriguing spring combinations.
Taking purple in a lighter direction, Lavender presents a softer,
more summery hue, extending the mystical aspects of purple
available last fall. As yellow continues
to make its mark on the world of fashion, tangy Super Lemon brings a fun,
optimistic outlook to the palette. Its
luminosity is determined to evoke a smile and attract the roving
consumer’s eyes.
Think sensual and seductive. Fuchsia
Red with its blue undertones and cool red is a real
show-stopper, adding a sense of elegance to the palette. Dark Citron, a citrus-inspired
green, is calmer and more serious than most, offering an element of
sophistication to the mix. And with its bluish-green undertones,
cool Slate Gray is a nuanced
neutral that can be paired with any of the other nine colors in the
report.

Recycle
Your Christmas Cards

Wondering what to do
with all those Christmas Cards after the New Year? Consider donating
them to St. Jude's Ranch for Children.
The
children participate in making the new recycled cards by removing the
front and attaching a new back made with recycled
paper. The new card is a beautiful, “green” card made by the
children and volunteers. The benefits are two-fold: customers receive
"green" holiday cards for use and the children receive payment for
their work and learn the benefits and importance of "going green".
